Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco (born Angela Maria Ani DiFranco) is an American and Canadian singer-songwriter. She has released more than 20 albums. The music of DiFranco has been described as folk music as well as alternative rock, but it has additional influences from punk funk hip hop and jazz. Ani DiFranco, widely regarded as a female icon, and Grammy award-winning musician is widely regarded as to be the father of DIY music. She was one of the pioneers to establish an independent label back in the year 1990. DiFranco is the son of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They met at an institution called the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her mother hails from Montreal and her father comes from Italian roots. Ani diFranco wrote and sang the song 32 Flavors. This song appears on her upcoming album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. This track appears on the film soundtrack for the Canadian romantic drama Better Than Chocolate from 1999. DiFranco has since apologized when it was revealed she was planning to host a 3-day workshop on one of the Louisiana former plantation for slaves. The workshop was cancelled, however, she did not express any regret. DiFranco released a new apology three days later. While she has been known as the Little Folksinger, her music spans many genres and collaborators ranging from Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince. She hails from New Orleans.
